Kate was the widow of John Bowerman and she died at the Star Hotel on Bank Holiday Monday, August 2nd 1942.
Two German ME 190s came in low over the town from the sea and dropped two bombs before the air raid sirens sounded. Many people at West Bay saw the planes coming in.
The first bomb fell in West Street, behind what then, the Star Hotel and the ensuing explosion killed four people, severely injured three, and slightly injured 21 more.
Kate was one of those who was killed.
Local reports infer that she was local, but there is no trace of her, or her late husband, in any confirmed records.
