PRIVATE ALBERT TREVETT: 12426
7th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment
Albert was born in Burton Bradstock and spent his early life in Darby Lane, the youngest of four children born to William and Alice Trevett.
The family moved into South Street, Bridport where William was employed as a general dealer and Alice, Albert and sister Sarah worked as net makers and twine spinners for the local rope and net industry.
Albert left this occupation to join the army and in 1891 he was stationed in Millbay Barracks, Plymouth – a Private in the 2nd.Dorsetshire Regiment. He did not complete his service with them as he was invalided out .
1902 saw him back in Bridport and at the time of his marriage to Jane Parcher (Panchen/Pauchen) he was a Publican in Folly Mill Lane ( The Robin Hood?) The family later moved to 24 St Michaels Lane by which time Albert and Jane had been joined by three children Cecil, Percy and Gertrude. A third son, Albert was born in May 1915
In 1914 Albert was mobilised as part of the Reserve and he was attested for one years’ Short Service on November 14th. He was 48 at this time.
His first posting was to Wyke Regis and after completing initial training he was posted to Bovington Camp, Dorset in May 1915, just after Albert’s birth.
Albert did not see active service. Tragically, in June 1915, he committed suicide due to “temporary insanity”
Albert’s family brought his body back to Bridport and he was buried at Bridport Cemetery.
